What are homogeneous terms?
What are the rules of the Russian language? The fact that even without knowing all the subtleties of their application, they are absolutely everything. Want an example? You are welcome! Coming from school, the child begins to talk about everything he did: wrote the composition, solved the problem, played football, pushed Mashka. It's not you, not your child, who does not think that his story turned out so full, thanks to very important homogeneous members of the sentence. So what are the homogeneous terms of the sentence?
How to recognize homogeneous members
To begin with, remember that such a proposal. These are words expressing a complete thought. The words from which the sentence consists are called the members of the sentence. This subject, predicate, definition, addition, circumstance.
Proposals consisting of different members (mainand secondary) are considered common. They can have similar in function terms. They answer one question and relate to one common word, that is, they are homogeneous.
And why do we need homogeneous terms? In the example above, from the school life, the child listed everything that he did in class. Thus, the main purpose of homogeneous members is enumeration. Homogeneous members make the narration more interesting, allow us to tell at once about several actions, subjects or their signs.
What members of the proposal are they
What are homogeneous members, and what members of the sentence can they be? The answer is simple: any. Accordingly, they can be any parts of speech.
For example, the main member of the sentence is a subject expressed in a noun: Roses, hydrangeas and poppies grew in the garden.
Homogeneous predicates look like this: In physical education, the guys ran, jumped, pushed themselves out, played volleyball. All verbs here are predicates (answer the question: what did?) And the homogeneous members of the sentence (since they belong to the same subject).
An example of homogeneous circumstances: On the fence, roof and trees sat crows.
Homogeneous definitions give several characteristics to one object at once: Water in the sea was warm, clean and transparent.
In the sentence: He painted watercolor, gouache, pencil - homogeneous additions.
Punctuation and unions
On the letter, homogeneous members are separated by commas andthey are connected by unions, and when pronounced, by the intonation of the enumeration: "And the wind and the rain, and the mist over the cold desert of water" (I. Bunin). In this example, words are connected by a repeating connecting union.
The commas are put and if the homogeneous members are joined by the opposing unions: The spool is small, yes dear. Union "yes" is used in the meaning of the adversarial union "but".
In the case of using separating unions, commas are also necessary: I buy either apples, pears, or plums.
So, you learned what homogeneous members of the sentence are, examples of their application, and for sure you understood that it's simply not possible to do without them in everyday communication.
