The abbreviation "UFO" stands for"unknown flying object". The term arose in the post-war years of the last century, when the press increased the number of publications on the observation of flying objects that could not be identified. The first surge in interest in UFOs was noted in the American press in 1947. Then the American Kenneth Arnold reported that during the flight near Mount Rainier in Washington state, he observed 9 saucer-like objects flying at a speed of about 2700 km / h. With his light hand, the press dubbed them "flying saucers." The term UFO has been used since 1950, its author is the researcher EJ Ruppelt.
The US military drew attention to thenewspaper publications. Fearing that flying objects could be combat vehicles of a hostile Soviet Union, the commander of the Air Force ordered the study of anomalous atmospheric phenomena. Up to 1969 there was a study of all the facts of observations of unidentified flying objects first by the military and then by the scientists of the University of Colorado. After this, the official study was discontinued, and without giving a definitive answer to the question whether there is a UFO. The report of the commission was set out on 1000 pages and its conclusions stated that there was no evidence of alien origin. However, the studies themselves contained many interesting facts that modern science could not explain.
After this study, the UFO began to studyvarious public organizations. During this time, enthusiasts from different countries have accumulated a huge amount of information about the UFO. These are photographs, video tapes, and other documents. When checking the facts, the lion's share of the phenomena can be explained by phenomena of an astronomical order, atmospheric or technogenic phenomena. Therefore, on the question of whether there is a UFO, the video also can not give a definitive answer due to the fact that no expert study of video recordings has confirmed the fact of extraterrestrial origin of these objects.
However, there are facts that are at the momentscientific explanation is not amenable. This is the numerous observations of eyewitnesses, and, fixed by military radars, objects flying at great speed. One of the canonical examples is the observation of a huge flying jellyfish over Petrozavodsk in 1977. This phenomenon was observed by thousands of people.
