In 2018 Kerch Bridge to the Crimea will be erectedMarch 28, 2017
The Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation has publicly announced the forthcoming works. The key position in the schedule of planned work is occupied by the construction of the Kerch ferry, which will be the connecting link between the Caucasus coast and the Republic of Crimea. Construction work started in August of this year and will last about a year and a half. So, according to the schedule, the bridge should be commissioned by the end of 2018.
The construction plan also includes the construction of a bridge system and the construction of relevant infrastructure facilities. The bridge system includes: passage through the main channel, passage along the Tuzla Spit, along the dam and along the existing strait.
To date, a project has been developed for the construction of a double-track railway (about 42 km) and a highway (about 40 km). These roads will approach the Kerch bridge itself. Excavation excavation work has already started, and measures are being taken to neutralize World War II ammunition, which until now have been underground.
Upon completion of construction, a new full-fledged bridge is expected, the crossing over which will be carried out by road and rail, and trains will be able to move simultaneously in both directions. It will be a modern electrified road, the capacity of which will be about 100 million tons of cargo per year and a significant number of passenger trains.
