Hollywood Reacts to the 2015 Academy Award Nominees

The coveted nominations have been unveiled for the 2015 Academy Awards airing Sunday, February 22 on ABC. While many A-List actors were prepared with a statement via their adequately coiffed publicists, a couple of Hollywood elites were just doing their usual thing.

“I was in a deep, dark sleep. I was in a dazed state. I was half undressed and stumbled to the door. I found my manger there brandishing a phone with a lot of screams coming out of it,” said Eddie Redmayne, who is nominated for Best Actor inThe Theory of Everything.

His Best Actress nominee co-star, Felicity Jones, was in agreement. “I was in my pajamas when I got the news.”

“I don’t care how much people tell you, ‘It’s gonna happen.’ When it happens, you’re thrilled,”Birdman‘s Michael Keaton, who’s nominated in the Best Actor category, said.

In a double-decker sandwich, composer Alexandre Desplat was nominated twice for Best Original Score for the filmsThe Grand Budapest HotelandThe Imitation Game. He joked, “One could say, only two times?”

J.K. Simmons was nominated for his supporting role inWhiplash.

“A guy doesn’t think about things like this when he starts doing summer theater in Bigfork, Montana in the ’70s,” Simmons said.

BirdmanBest Supporting Actress nominee Emma Stone could hardly contain herself.

“I am so (expletive) excited,” Stone said. “Are you allowed to say (expletive) when you’re making a statement for the Oscars?”

The Imitation Game’s Benedict Cumberbatch was humbled by the early morning call.

“To ring my parents who are both actors and tell them that their only son has been nominated for an Oscar is one of the proudest moments of my life,” the Best Actor nominee shared.

Big Hero 6co-director Chris Williams said of their Best Animated Feature nod, “Now I guess Baymax has to go out and pick out a tux.”

Perhaps the most insane part of the nominations procedure happened whenMr. Turnercinematographer Dick Pope’s name was called. “No comment. I’ve been called worse.”

He was called “Dick Poop”…he wins just for that.

Eric Fellner, co-chairman at Working Title Films and Academy Award nominee for Best Picture was thrilled with the film’s Oscar representation.

“We are honored that the Academy has recognizedThe Theory of Everythingwith five Oscar nominations today especially Eddie and Felicity’s incredible performances as Stephen and Jane Hawking,” said Fellner. “We’re delighted that Jóhann and Anthony were also recognized for their work on this film in a year with so many brilliant movies. ”

Focus Pictures saw their two films,The Theory of EverythingandThe Boxtrolls, nominated Thursday.

The Lego Movie’s catchy tune “Everything is Awesome” was nominated for Best Original Song andUnbrokenwas nominated for Best Original Score.

In other exciting news, Mark Ruffalo was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Foxcatcher and Reese Witherspoon for her turn in Wild(Best Actress in a Leading Role). She’ll be up against Julianne Moore in Still Alice, Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl, and Jones in The Theory of Everything.

Additionally, Selmais nominated for Best Picture and will compete against The Imitation Game, American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood,and The Theory of Everything.
